Inexpensive Ways To Dress Up Your Deck Décor
June 14, 2023Picture this. Your alarm wakes you up, and you prepare to get out of your warm and comfortable bed. You do the standard early morning stretch, then swing those legs over to the side. Your feet hit the floor, and you immediately regret waking up.
It has nothing to do with the time of day and everything to do with the freezing floor. You can eliminate cold floors with a rug. But it needs to fit in perfectly. We can tell you what size rug you need for your bedroom.
Rugs in Small Bedrooms
Bedrooms come in all shapes and sizes, and the rug you choose needs to fit the measurements of your room. For smaller bedrooms, you don’t want to continue to think small. A small rug makes the space look even tinier than it is.
It might seem surprising, but a large rug opens the space up. You want to go for the smart, unified look for smaller bedrooms. The rug should be large enough to accommodate most of the furnishings, accessories, and décor elements. Choose a rug that’s proportional to the furniture and space. You don’t want a very large rug with small furniture.
Rugs in Large Bedrooms
Larger bedrooms also need large rugs, but the dimensions need to be a little more specific. Master bedrooms will likely have furniture to fit and fill the space. Things like a larger dresser and a king-size bed are standard.
An 8 ft x 10 ft rug covers a king-sized bed and nightstands, with 3 ft of the rug on either side of the bed. A 6 ft x 9 ft rug will give an 18-inch border on each side. You can also go bigger into the double digits with a 12 ft x 15 ft rug. But never go so big that you can’t see the rug at all. Always leave room for a distinction between rug and flooring.
Items on Top of the Rug
How many items do you want to sit on top of the rug? Figuring that out is probably the easiest way to decide on the size of your bedroom rug. For smaller bedrooms, if you want to fit the bottom two-thirds of the bed only, 4 ft x 6 ft or 5 ft x 8 ft dimensions should fit perfectly.
If you plan to fit the nightstand and bench at the foot of the bed, you’ll need a 6 ft x 9 ft area rug. Larger bedrooms require a 12 ft x 15 ft area rug. A general rule of thumb is to have area rugs for large bedrooms extend at least 18 to 24 inches from the sides.
Visibility of the Rug
Now you need to decide how much of the rug you want to show and how much space there should be between the rug and the wall. Eighteen inches of the rug should show on either side of the bed, while larger bedrooms can get away with 24 inches of extension. Regarding the wall-and-rug ratio, at least 12 inches should exist between the wall and rug.
